sorry but this album is fucking awful and has strayed so far from anything good that they really shouldnt be called 'the adolescents' anymore. its not that i dont understand how the memembers have aged and matured (and gotten fat haha) but it seems to me it lacks the integrity that made the blue album so good and a classic. this definitely isnt a 'must have'

i really would pay to see chinatown and BSD have it out in a steel cage match. of course, neither would truly be the 'winner'.

Would it really be worth it? Anchors seems to think that just because I find his adoration of Alexisonfire funny, I must be some sort of mad stalker tracking him down for rape... I don't really care. If he wants to instigate fights on a message board, he can do it with someone else, because I don't feel like playing the internet nerd game anymore.

All in all, it's a good album and a must-have for fans of the Adolescents. Though it's not quite the Blue Album, it shows a positive growth for the band as maturing punks tend to do.

This is readily available at indie heaven Tower Records.

Rikk stopped showing up. He is now in 45 Grave. You can see them on tour with the Misfits this fall.

Now that i've seen your review, it's quite clear you spent a lot of time on it. It's far too long, it's boring and you're completly wrong about it. Amazing album? It's a pop album with guitars. I'm surprised Brian didn't post it out of pity, but goes to show how much he dislikes you.

It seems you're just like Anchors, only shittier and you can't get on staff.

i used to write for a video game site back in the day that had a large readership and we got into these kinds of disputes.

HAHA......I find it pretty sad that, day by day, as bad as Gray Davis was (and he was pretty damn bad)- old "Ahnuld" is proving to be gradually becoming much worse. I just have this image of him in the State Capitol with millions of people breathing down his throat- until he reaches a breaking point and yells "SHUD UPPPP!" Kindergarten Cop style. Yeah, um........actors shouldn't be politicians- good or bad, conservative or liberal- stick with what you know. Oh.....yeah, and the Adolescents are pretty cool.....but I always found them to be a bit too generic and poppy for my tastes. DI and TSOL are both better OC bands.

I found my copy at Virgin Megastore in Orange, but then again they did a CD-release show, there--inside the store! So the CD was not hard to come by.

It was a 8 or 9 song set.

And there was moshing, even though moshing was not technically allowed.

And there was an undercover cop and security yelling "We'll shut this show down if you don't get back!" constantly between each song.

And I got manhandled by some idiot jock, whom I immediately tried to shove to the front so that the cop would eject him--but said jock instead scurried away to the back.

Stupid fucking jocks. Well, at least I got theirs when I raised their fucking car taxes on their jock-mobile pick-up trucks! Fuck them and their domestic-violence-prone proclivities!

Shit, I digressed too long--try finding the CD at Virgin.

Oh man, you can't believe how hard it was to find this fucking album. Literally no stores here or online had it on the July 12th release date. None of the stores from the small indie shops all the way to the Best Buy's had it. No one online had it either on the release date except for Interpunk, which they weren't able to get the actual album in stock until a week later, so that's how I got my copy.

My thoughts on this record are overall very positive but I was so built up for this release over the years in anticipation that I couldn't help but feel just a little slight disappointed in that it wasn't absolutely perfect. That's the problem when you wait for an album for so damn long. I could probably write my own in depth review on it but I'm no where near capable in doing that, thankfully...

First off the production is indeed slick but I think the vocals are odd when you first listen to them. I guess I got so used to the live versions of "Hawks and Doves" and "Lockdown America" from the Kung-Fu "Show Must Go Off" DVD/CD combo that it was just bizarre finally hearing the studio versions after all that waiting. But that was just a minor quip that I eventually got used too after repeated listens.

I guess the biggest thing I’d have to mention is that you notice very well that Rikk is missing from the line-up; none of his awesome guitar work is here. I noticed it the most when his guitar solo on “Lockdown America” that I heard from the “Show Must Go Off” DVD/CD was missing here on the album. It’s such a pity that they couldn’t have just kept him on the album because you defiantly notice his presence is missing. Thankfully the songs are still strong enough without him; I just keep imagining what this album would have been like with more input from him.

The lyrics are very strong here with so many catchy choruses. I haven’t grown tired of this album yet and I doubt I will. Hawks and Doves, Lockdown America, Where The Children Play, California Sun, Pointless Teenage Anthem, Death On Friday, Into The Fire, Within These Walls, Let It Rain, and OC Confidential are all instantly strong tracks that I’d gladly want to hear live along the classic Blue Album material.

So overall this album is defiantly worth buying is the just relentless amount of catchy So-Cal punk songs on here. It’s hard to find a chorus on here that won’t get stuck in your head. They may never be able to write another perfect Blue Album again but that era is past them and this is still a very strong record despite Rikk Agnew being gone from the line-up. If you’re an Adolescents fan you’ll finally be able to have a studio album worth listening too after the Blue Album.

i havent heard this release yet, so i cant say. but historically, adolescents are a little more accessible/melodic, imo.

a wide range of people listen to the adolescents. with D.I., the listener group is basically people that like 80's hardcore.

Not that I want to get involved in this, but I submitted it yesterday after I posted it on Pastepunk b/c I noticed the org didn't have a review of it up yet. I had no idea it would get the pass-through so quickly, but in defense of Brian deciding to run with it - the release is a couple of weeks old so it's timely and is something that I feel is "historical" about hardcore, and so is worth the extra look (which is why I submitted me here as well, to reach the audience that Pastepunk doesn't). Thanks for the kind words!

I haven't found a copy of this yet but if the other new songs are as good as the songs on that e.p. they put out a couple years ago I'll be very happy. I'm pretty surprised no one is making as big a deal about this release as they did about the new 7 Seconds.

Also I don't know if I can go on another day without reading the Fordirelifesake review. I haven't read a review of some tech-screamo-metalcore-whatever that shit is band in at least an hour.

On the subject of reviews:

Why not eliminate the REALLY bad ones or the ones that are WAY inappropriate for the site? That way almost everybody wins: visitors get more readable, relevant reviews and punknews.org gets a reputation for being a literate site.

Yeah, I ordered it from one of the third party sellers. That's all I ever do on Amazon and most of the time it works out real well. One RFTC album I ordered was bent, but I got the money refunded for it.

I'll be honest, the Blue Album was great... I haven't heard the demos, but their 80's hard rock stuff doesn't thrill me. And I'm more than a bit of a skeptic concerning this reunion jive. I haven't heard this record, but why the sudden "return to punk"? Why are all of these old bands deciding that it's time to be punk rock again, after extended stints as hard-rock/pop bands? Do they only like to be playing punk when there's a "boom"?
